The charity that works to improve life after brain injury
A Life Re-written by Brain Injury
BBC The Traitors star Andrew Jenkins is fronting Headway's A Life Re-written campaign, exploring how brain injury can affect anyone at any time, focussing on how it throws plans into disarray, changes life goals, and can even alter people’s sense of identity.
Andrew is a familiar face to many after appearing in series 2 of the BBC TV reality show The Traitors, where he was a popular finalist and shared his personal experiences of being a brain injury survivor following a catastrophic car crash in 1999.
As well as sharing his own story as part of A Life Re-written, Andrew has spoken to brain injury survivors Alison, Liz, and Liz’s daughter Justina about how all their lives were rewritten after brain injury. He has also spoken to brain injury survivor and professional photographer David Baker, who has provided the photographs for the campaign.
Andrew said:
“Headway - the brain injury association is an amazing charity doing amazing things to help people rebuild their lives after brain injury. I’m delighted to support this year’s Action for Brain Injury Week and help tell the story of others who have had their lives rewritten by brain injury.”

This is my life/nightmare after getting hit in the face with a folding chair at a training event. Turned on it's edge. It reversed my personality and I'm aware. It's professionally embarrassing to sometimes reintroduce myself to people I work with. I even forget what I'm talking about mid-sentence more often than I care it admit.
Give it the big one against eden Hazard at the battle of the bridge. How ironic your career ended at the bridge.
Awesome. Thank you❤
I fell, almost four months ago. My physical injuries are improving...but the blurry thinking and fatigue, the constant mistakes when I'm too tired, after pushing to get tasks done. All of that, mental and emotional difficulties keep coming, may be a few more months...

I'm also living my life like this. I have double head trauma and it's affected me so dramatically but apparently I'm just supposed to be perfect and be the me that I was before I got hurt
I see this video is 4 years old. I hope and pray that you have seen wonderful improvements.
Whole Grains: Many people have issues with gluten and will enter an "inflammation cycle" because of it. = Try not having any gluten for a few days to weeks to see if you have issues (breaks the inflammation cycle). Also fasting for a few days, will help break any inflammation cycle and alert you to any issues. -Slowly incorporate foods back into your diet and monitor the inflammation. -high histamine/histadine foods. (Histadine breaks down to histamine), fermented foods etc. -oxalate foods. People that have kidney stone issues. (Chocolate, some uncooked vegetables)
I maintained a lot of my long-term memories and Lost a lot of my short-term memory capability my younger brother would tell me a couple of jokes every evening and I would try to remember at least one to you tell my coworker the next morning when I got to work sometimes I be able to sometimes I wouldn't over the course of a couple of years I'm not entirely sure how many exactly that's where my memory does not work well at all even to this day but I was able to memorize a lot of different jokes😊 I was 21 when I got injured I'm 37 now my short-term memory has improved a lot but I still have days there are harder than others 😓 it's nice to know there are other people out there that are struggling with similar things it's tough looking normal on the outside butt fighting your brain every day you wake up and every night you try to go to sleep. I'm honestly not sure which would be a tougher one to deal with losing so many of your long-term memories or remembering so much about who you were and realizing that person died in the accident and the person you are now is what you have.

I have an ABI and have not had headway around for years, it got cut where I live. It was a lifeline. Now I have no support. Please help these people as it would be horrible if Raj lost his independence 😢

Thank you so much Clare for sharing an insight to your inspiring journey through recovery and through negotiating life challenges! It was amazing to hear. Thanks
After being more aware of your body would you still go swimming in the sea with all that powerful sensory input blocking the usual bodily awarenss?
It's just so hard. Every single fucking day. And I'm not sure who I'm trying to "be". The old me is just some stranger that I'm trying to emulate every second of my life while the new me wants to stare at the clouds and wander into traffic.

@@headwayuk Thanks for that. I'm in the States (Boston specifically) and have been very lucky to have some of the best neuro doctors in the country. They keep me grounded and help manage the old expectations that I still hold myself too.
Interesting 🧐 they’re all European. Wish I knew a Brit bloke😆 But brain injury is EVERYWHERE.
One of the many things I learned after getting hit by a car was LIFE is too short. Enjoy it! I’m trying to nowadays I’m relearning to walk again so I can help myself AND others. I’m curious about this man’s story.
I wrote too soon. I saw in a separate video. What happened to his brain. His injury sounds horrific to anyone. I’m slightly jealous he can still walk. But everyone’s different 😊

Very brave to do this, thank you. It was like listening to my story. ❤bless you
I had a TBI last March when I fainted at work and smashed my skull on a concrete floor. I have no memory whatsoever of the event or even the week before when I had suffered a bout of Norovirus and became dehydrated. I was in intensive care in a coma for one week because of a brain bleed, and in a brain trauma unit for 7 weeks. I have loss of smell, sequencing memory problems and fatigue.
Listening to this helps me. Helps me look at my social issues more objectively for a while. Thanks Headway.
Norman!

I found the 'conversational' delivery difficult to follow too often to try rewinding the tape, but I did get all the way to the end.
Excellent video, and reflects so much of how I feel sometimes!
I had a TBI back in March 2023. The majority of people have not a clue 😡
How about discrimination within ur own family? Iv the worst, sickest family known to man
